Wisdom Of Crowds is the breathtaking new collaboration between Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief) with Jonas Renkse (Katatonia). This is one release that we at Feedback have been salivating in raving anticipation for since word broke of a release date. Wisdom Of Crowds steadily grows from first listen and the rewards are tenfold. This is a pensive and easily accessible record, there are no bad tracks on here. Plus the unique and instantly recognisable voice of Renkse ensures that this is going to be a memorable release for all the right reasons. Title track ‘Wisdom Of Crowds’ is a contemplative radio friendly track with an awesome fifties style theme that has been dragged by it’s heels into the twenty first century. The track breezes by effortlessly and the constant backing of a melancholic clean guitar track that will have even the most hardened metal head tapping and nodding along in approval. The lesser impact of tracks like ‘Radio Star’ and ‘The Light’ are rather forgettable and outstay their welcome and will have you reaching for the remote. The latter sounds as though it would be more at home on a film soundtrack. That is not to say that they are bad, certainly not. However when measured against other songs they on the album they seem insubstantial. Other main highlights are the majestic and unshakable ‘Frozen North’, ‘Pretend’ which are some of the heavier and fast paced numbers on offer and the reflective brilliance of ‘Stacked Naked’. The positive reception that this side project is receiving is in no way unjust, this is a beautiful record that should be part of your record collection.
