Devonshire band Lockersludge have been playing a mixture of sludge / doom and hardcore since their inception in 1993. The Teignmouth trio are currently working on their third album with a working title of ‘Drawing Lessons’. With a healthy influence of bands such as Crowbar, Pantera and Sworn Enemy, they are causing quite a stir on the South West coast of England. Here on the groups mini album Falling on our Faces, the three-piece waste no time, springing out of the traps with the stomping ‘Face the future now’. The drums are vicious and punchy, reminiscent of early Therapy? sticksman Fyfe Ewing’s best work. ‘Green Army’ has quite possibly, one of the most memorable chorus’ ever recorded by a sludge / doom act. The guitars sound great, however they lack considerable weight and are unfortunately just not ‘big’ enough, the overall sound would greatly benefit from having some rhythm guitars bulking up the crunchy distortion. However, there are many positives to take from this release and surely their next release will be a yet another progression for the group. Let’s just hope that the wait is not too long.
Mark Lockyer (Vocals & Drums), Andy Lockyer (Guitar), Brew (Bass).
