Atra Vetosus – A Palace Shrouded In Emptiness

Atra Vetosus - A Palace Shrouded In Emptiness

Australia is not normally associated with Black Metal, therefore this awe-inspiring demo from Atra Vetosus is all the more surprising.  This is the bands debut offering on Belgian label Immortal Frost Productions and it has proven to be quite popular amongst fans of the genre, since its release back in 2011.  Opening and title track ‘A Palace Shrouded in Emptiness’ erupts like a startled beast, awoken from it’s fathomless slumber.  The high pitched shrieks of vocalist Thorodan are reminiscent of UK black metallers Cradle of Filth on their classic album ‘Dusk and Her Embrace’.  Also, the mix of acoustic guitar with the weeping keyboards are assuredly stirring.  The brilliant keyboard led intro to ‘Far Beyond The Primordial Forest’ quickly falls away under the immense pressure of the thundering guitars.  This is classic Black Metal at its most raw and unrepentant.  Lastly, closing track ‘Nocturnal Winds’ follows the same structure of its predecessor, the gentle intro leading to a flurry of blast beats and distortion, all the while being bolstered by the erratic screams and wails of Thorodan.  The duo are currently working on their debut album, no release date has been set as of yet.
