The second full-length offering from Greek doom outfit Sorrow’s Path is rather a mixed bag. There are some moments of greatness here, unfortunately however one or two songs sound a little dated (examples of which being ‘Fetish’ and ‘Prostitute’). Though this is merely a minor blip for the five-piece. Lead singer Angelos Ioannidis has an impressive vocal range, his style sounds like a mixture of Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and Judas Priest’s Rob Halford. ‘All Love is Lost’ is a brooding opener, with majestic guitar from the start before transforming to a colossal and spiralling anthem. ‘Mr. Holy’ has an Ozzy Osbourne feel to it, and must sound brilliant in a live surrounding. ‘Getting Closer’ opens with a wonderful drum intro that compliments Guns n’ Roses classic ‘You Could Be Mine’. ‘Queen of Doom’ is a brooding monster of a track, with some glorious shredding from Kostas Salomidis and Giannis Tziligkakis. Also, the rhythm section (drummer Fotis Mountouris and bassist Stavros Giannakos) are a well-oiled machine providing a rock solid base for the rest of the band to flourish on. ‘Hymn Of Differentiation’ is another outstanding offering, with a beautiful acoustic intro. Overall an impressive release by this quartet, the album is littered with catchy melodies, whilst still sounding heavy at the same time. A very good album from an altogether very good band.
